“I want to promote courage for women who suffered violence. By adding my voice to raising awareness about women's rights, we could have a life free from all forms of violence so we could have power at home, at work, and in wider society.''

Biography

My name is Analee, I’m 47 years of age and one of 11 siblings. I was born in the Philippines and am a graduate of secondary school. I didn’t proceed to college because my parents couldn't afford to pay for the tuition after they were scammed by relatives after they sold their 2-hectares coconut farm and ended up with nothing. I was married in 1995 and blessed with five children, three boys and two girls. They are all grown up and now I’m a Grandma of lovely 7 months old twin girls.

I decided to work overseas to prove to them that I can raise my children and give them a good and successful life. Being a single mom is very difficult and even more difficult to work and live far from my children. I don’t give up hope that everything will change soon and I’m determined to survive and overcome the challenges I’ll face. I was brought by my employer from the middle east to London. where I managed to escape after suffering from abuse and exploitation.

I've been an active member of VODW since February 2019. I found help from this community as they referred me to the NRM and offered free English classes. It's a big help to speak English well and it boosts my confidence. The perfect timing came and now I have become one of the Future Voices 2023 and I believe this programme will hone my skills and ability to pursue my goals and help my fellow migrant domestic workers to be empowered!
