"At the core of my story is my voice — a voice that longs not just to be heard, but truly listened to. I speak not for noise, but for change. I share my truth so that domestic workers are no longer invisible — so we are seen, respected, and given the rights we deserve as workers and as human beings."

Biography

My name is Alzua, and I’m from the Philippines. I am 31 years old and a proud mother to one beautiful child. Ever since I was young, I’ve had a deep love for singing. My voice has always been a part of me — something I used to express joy, hope, and dreams. My family were my very first audience — my biggest supporters. They would smile, sing along, and tell me how proud they were. In those simple moments, I felt loved, seen, and full of promise.

Like many others in my country, I grew up with a simple dream — to live happily and peacefully with my family. But dreams, no matter how pure, sometimes face hard realities. Because of poverty, I made the difficult decision to leave my home and everything I knew to work abroad. I became a domestic worker — not because it was easy, but because I had to be strong for my family. Every day I spend away from them is a sacrifice, but I hold onto the hope that my efforts will give my son the life he deserves.

There was a time here in the UK when I felt completely lost. I didn’t know where to go or who to turn to. It was in that dark moment that I found The Voice of Domestic Workers (VoDW) — or maybe, they found me. They gave me not just support, but a second chance. They helped me rise again, taught me about my rights, and most importantly, reminded me of my worth.

Now, as I take another step forward by joining Future Voices Revolution, I feel a mixture of excitement and courage. It’s a new challenge — yes — but it’s also an opportunity to grow, to be heard, and to help others find their own voice too. This journey is not just for me, it’s for every domestic worker who dares to dream beyond their struggle.

I may have left my country to find work, but in this journey, I am also finding myself — my strength, my voice, and my purpose.
