When I first joined The Voice of Domestic Workers, I never imagined how much it would impact my life. I thought it would just be a place to get some support, maybe find people who understood my struggles. But what I found was a community that has given me so much more—friends, knowledge, and a sense of security that I had never experienced before.

One of the most valuable things I've gained from being part of this organization is the opportunity to learn and grow through the different classes offered. The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes have been a life-changer for me. When I first arrived in the UK, I struggled with the language barrier. I often felt isolated and unable to fully express myself, whether it was in my work or in my daily life. But through the ESOL classes at The Voice of Domestic Workers, I’ve made incredible progress. I can now communicate more easily with my employers, my colleagues, and even strangers in the community. I’m no longer afraid to speak up or ask questions, and I feel more confident in my ability to navigate daily situations.

In addition to language skills, the financial literacy and IT classes have been equally transformative. Before joining this organization, I didn’t know much about managing my finances or using technology to my advantage. I learned the basics of budgeting, saving, and understanding my financial rights. This has made a huge difference in how I manage my money. I feel more in control of my finances now, and I understand how to make better decisions for my future. The IT classes have also been invaluable. I didn’t have much experience with mobilephones, but now I’m able to use technology in my everyday life, from creating documents to using the internet to access important information. These skills have not only helped me in my job but have also opened up new opportunities for personal growth and development.

I also can’t emphasize enough how much the organization has given me a sense of security. Being a domestic worker in a foreign country can sometimes feel uncertain and lonely. But The Voice of Domestic Workers has become like a second family to me. We support each other, we share our experiences, and we uplift each other. I feel like I’m part of something bigger, something that is fighting for the rights and dignity of all domestic workers.

A key reason why I feel so secure in this organization is because of Ate Marissa, the director of The Voice of Domestic Workers. She is a true blessing to all of us. From the very beginning, Marissa has been incredibly supportive and approachable. She genuinely cares about the well-being of every member, and it shows in everything she does. She has dedicated herself to helping us in every aspect of our journey here in the UK, especially when it comes to processing our rights to work and ensuring that we are treated fairly. I know that if I ever have any questions or concerns, Marissa is always there to listen, offer guidance, and help us navigate the complexities of our work and life situations.

Marissa's dedication goes beyond just providing guidance. She tirelessly advocates for us, ensuring that we are aware of our rights and that we have the tools and support we need to assert those rights. She’s always working to improve our situation and to make sure that we are treated with respect and fairness. I can honestly say that I wouldn't have made the progress I’ve made without her constant support. Her hard work and commitment to us are truly inspiring, and I am deeply grateful for everything she does.

Thanks to The Voice of Domestic Workers, I no longer feel like I’m alone or invisible. I now have the skills, the knowledge, and the confidence to navigate my life here in the UK. But more importantly, I have a community of friends and supporters who are always there for me, and a leader like Marissa who has shown me what true dedication looks like.

I’m so thankful for everything I’ve learned and all the people I’ve met through this organization. The support I’ve received has not only helped me in my job but has made me feel empowered in my everyday life. I feel more secure, more informed, and more connected than ever before, and I’m excited to continue my journey with The Voice of Domestic Workers.
