When I first became part of The Voice of Domestic Workers (VODW), my emotions were a mix of fear, uncertainty, and hope. Everything felt so difficult at the beginning—new faces, new routines, and the heavy weight of adjusting to a life far from home. But in the middle of all that, I discovered something precious: a family I never expected to find.
From the moment I stepped into the community, I was met with smiles, kindness, and respect. People I had only just met treated me with warmth, as though I had known them for years. That loving and welcoming environment slowly erased the loneliness I carried with me. With VODW, I realized I was not alone in my struggles. Instead, I was part of a family that supports, encourages, and empowers me to fight for my rights as a migrant domestic worker.

This journey has not only lifted my spirit but also boosted my confidence. VODW showed me that I can achieve more, that I can dream bigger, and that I am capable of becoming the best version of myself. More than an organization, VODW is a family that stands with us through our battles and celebrates with us in our victories.
Gratitude has taken on a new meaning since becoming part of this community. To me, VODW feels like home—a safe place where love and support flow freely, where each of us is seen and valued. It is in this space that I’ve experienced what it truly means to belong.
Here, we lift one another up. We celebrate achievements, both big and small. We encourage one another to be braver, stronger, and more compassionate. The community allows each of us to shine, not just for ourselves but also for others who walk alongside us.
One of the proudest moments of my journey was when a photo I submitted during one of our weekly assignments was chosen as one of the best pictures of the week.
That recognition was more than just a simple achievement in photography—it was a reminder that my voice, my perspective, and my story matter. It taught me that through creativity and courage, I have the power to contribute something meaningful.
Among the many opportunities I received at VODW, joining the photography workshop was truly special. What I thought would be just a lesson about cameras and techniques turned out to be a life-changing experience. Photography became more than capturing images—it became a way of telling stories and preserving emotions.
Through the lens, I learned to see beauty in the everyday moments that often go unnoticed. A smile, a ray of light, a small gesture—suddenly, they carried deeper meaning. Each photo became a message, a memory frozen in time, and a reflection of the heart behind the camera.
Our instructor, Mr. Chris, guided us with patience and passion. He encouraged us to step out of our comfort zones, to try new angles, and to see the world differently. From him, I learned not just the technical aspects of photography but the courage to be expressive and authentic. Making memories through the lens has since become a journey of its own—a journey of creativity, self-discovery, and storytelling.

VODW also gave me the chance to explore new places, and with each trip came valuable lessons. When I visited the Isle of Wight, I was captivated by the breathtaking scenery. Standing there, I felt like I was touching the sky, surrounded by God’s masterpiece—the mountains, the colors, and the landscapes that stretched endlessly. It reminded me of the beauty in creation and the importance of pausing to appreciate it. That trip also taught me courage, especially when we took the cable car down to the seaside. I learned that no matter how frightening a path may seem, something beautiful always waits at the end of the journey.
In Portsmouth, the lessons were different but equally meaningful. Exploring its historic sites gave me a deeper appreciation for culture and history. At the same time, being in the shopping area tested my self-control and reminded me of the importance of being wise with money. It wasn’t just a day of sightseeing—it became a lesson in responsibility, balance, and growth.
Out of everything I have experienced, the greatest gift VODW has given me is a family away from home. Living in a foreign land is not easy, and there are days when the weight of being far from my loved ones feels unbearable. But VODW has been my anchor. In this family, I found comfort, guidance, and strength.
You have given me hope and reminded me that I am not alone. You’ve helped me stand taller, fight harder, and believe in myself even when times were tough. With you, I’ve learned that resilience grows stronger when it is nurtured by love and solidarity.
Nobody is promised tomorrow, but whatever the future holds, I will carry the lessons, love, and memories of this community in my heart. I will forever be grateful for the laughter we shared, the lessons I’ve learned, and the strength you’ve helped me discover within myself.
Being grateful is more than saying thank you—it’s about cherishing the people, the experiences, and the lessons that shape us into who we are. With VODW, I found not only support but also love, family, and the courage to keep moving forward. And for that, I will always be thankful.
