Our first visit to the UK Parliament both the House of Lords and the House of Commons was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we stepped through its historic doors, we could feel the weight of centuries of leadership and tradition. Every corner seemed to whisper stories of debates, decisions, and events that have shaped not just the United Kingdom, but also influenced the wider world.

Aira reflects, “From the moment I entered, I could feel the weight of history and tradition. Every corner seemed to whisper stories of leadership, debates, and decisions that shaped not just the United Kingdom, but even the world. Watching each member speak with confidence and conviction inspired me deeply. I felt humbled, honored, and motivated to bring that same sense of purpose to everything I do.”
Norhana shares her excitement, “This was such an important experience — my first time inside the UK Parliament. I was so excited to enter and see the interior. I was amazed by the details and the statues of kings and queens — it was truly inspiring to see where laws are created. Being inside Parliament, where decisions are made that affect so many people, including Filipinos, was a completely different feeling.”
Walking through the halls, we were in awe of the grandeur: the detailed architecture, the historical artifacts, and the sense of history in every corner. It was inspiring to think that these chambers are where laws are debated and passed laws that shape the lives of millions, including migrant domestic workers.
Although we were scheduled for a meet-and-greet with some Members of Parliament, they were engaged in crucial sessions, and we did not have the chance to meet them personally. Yet, just being in their presence and observing the workings of Parliament gave us a new sense of purpose.

Aira reflects, “It made me realize how powerful genuine public service can be when guided by respect, intellect, and integrity. Even without meeting the MPs personally, being in their space and witnessing their dedication was deeply inspiring.”
Norhana adds, “Thanks to Marissa for guiding us inside. This experience reminded me that advocacy and action matter that our voices, especially as domestic workers, can make a difference. Seeing where decisions are made strengthened my belief that we must continue to raise awareness and fight for our rights.”
Being part of this visit with The Voice of Domestic Workers connected us to a bigger purpose. It reminded us that supporting initiatives like Baroness Hamwee’s Amendment 44 isn’t just about policy it’s about restoring dignity, hope, and the right to live and work with respect.

This visit left an indelible mark on both of us. It inspired us to continue our work with courage, hope, and a shared belief that together, our voices can create real change.
