Standing Together to Protect Domestic Workers and Their Rights By Grace

One of my proudest achievements has been helping to rescue my fellow domestic workers from abusive employers. It is a responsibility that weighs heavily, but also one that brings incredible fulfillment. Rescuing a domestic worker is not just an action, it is an act of compassion, solidarity, and hope.

I will never forget the moments when I saw tears streaming down their faces as they shared their stories of suffering. When they turned to me and whispered, “Thank you,” my heart swelled. In that instant, I felt the weight of their pain, but also the profound impact of offering them a lifeline. I told myself quietly, well done. In that moment, I had not only rescued a person from an abusive situation, I had restored hope, dignity, and the possibility of a new life.

These experiences have taught me something deeply important. No domestic worker should ever face exploitation alone. We must support one another, share our stories, and raise our voices together. Abuse thrives in isolation, but solidarity brings power. When we stand together as one, united in our purpose, we remind the world and ourselves, that our voices matter, and that domestic work is not less than any other kind of work.

Domestic work is real work. It is decent work. It is essential work. And every domestic worker deserves to be treated with respect, fairness, and humanity. Our labor allows households to function, supports families, and strengthens communities. Yet without unity, without advocacy, and without courage, these contributions can be overlooked or exploited.

To my fellow domestic workers and supporters, I want to say this, we are stronger together. We must fight not only for ourselves, but for one another, for every person whose rights have been stolen or ignored. When we lift each other up, share our experiences, and refuse to stay silent, we create a movement that cannot be ignored.

Every rescue, every act of support, every moment we stand for justice sends a powerful message, domestic work matters, domestic workers matter, and together, we can ensure that dignity, safety, and respect are never optional, they are our right.
