Being a member of The Voice of Domestic Workers (VODW) has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life—an experience I will forever carry with gratitude in my heart.
When I first joined, I thought it would simply be about taking classes and attending activities. I imagined it would be a place where I could improve my English, learn some computer skills, and pass the time productively. But what I discovered was so much more. VODW was not just a program—it became a lifeline. It became a place where learning and connection flow hand in hand, where education is not only about books or lessons but about growth, confidence, and belonging.
Through ESOL and IT classes, I didn’t just gain practical knowledge—I gained something far more precious. I gained the courage to speak, to write, and to share my thoughts without fear of being dismissed. I discovered that my voice mattered. For someone who once felt invisible and silenced by circumstances, this was life-changing. Each class gave me not only skills but also a new piece of myself back. With every lesson, I felt stronger, more capable, and more ready to face the world outside.
What makes VODW truly special is its people. This community is built on kindness, respect, and genuine care. It’s not just about learning—it’s about listening, sharing, and understanding. Here, I’ve learned how to communicate openly, to respect other people’s opinions even when they differ from my own, and to celebrate the diversity of ideas and experiences among fellow members. Those simple yet powerful lessons have shaped me not just as a student, but as a person. They have given me the strength to face challenges with resilience and dignity, and the compassion to support others who may be struggling too.
Above all, VODW has been my safe haven. In the moments when I felt lost, lonely, or weak, it became a place of comfort and peace. It reminded me that I didn’t have to carry my burdens alone. It reminded me that when I stumble, there are hands ready to help me stand again. In those times of doubt and darkness, VODW gave me hope. And sometimes, hope is all we need to keep going.
I am especially grateful to the trustees of VODW, who welcomed me with open hearts and unwavering support. Their kindness and dedication have been a guiding light in my journey. They didn’t just provide guidance or resources—they gave compassion, encouragement, and love. And that has made all the difference. They reminded me that even in a world that can feel cold and isolating, there are people who care deeply, who believe in you, and who will stand by you.
For me, VODW is not just an organization—it is a family. A family that walks beside me, encourages me, and believes in my journey toward a brighter, better future. A family that has taught me that my voice matters, my dreams are valid, and my strength is real.
Thank you, VODW, for giving me more than I ever imagined. You have not only helped me learn but also helped me heal. You have not only taught me skills but also taught me to believe in myself again. You have given me a place to grow, a place to belong, and a place to hope.
