Congratulations to Cristina, a proud member of The Voice of Domestic Workers, for being one of the finalists in the Voices for Change Art Contest, held as part of the International Domestic Worker Federation’s (IDWF) 16 Days of Activism campaign against gender-based violence and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Cristina created this piece “with tears in my eyes, remembering all the pain, struggles, and courage it took to be where I am today.” Those words carry the weight of a lifetime. Every brushstroke, every line, not only reflects her voice, but also amplifies the voices of thousands of domestic workers who walk through life with resilience carved into their bones.

Her artwork is more than a campaign entry, it is a testimony. A testimony of women who have endured discrimination, invisibility, and silence, yet continue to rise with dignity. It tells the story of early mornings, sleepless nights, sacrifices made for families across oceans, and the quiet strength that keeps them moving forward even when the world refuses to see them.

Cristina’s piece reminds us that domestic workers are far more than victims of violence. They are leaders, organisers, healers, and artists. They are rewriting their own narratives with bravery and hope, transforming wounds into wisdom and struggle into power.

In every shade and shape of this artwork lives a message: domestic workers hold stories that can move the world and now, they are claiming the space to tell them.
