"Never give up on matters or circumstances that get you down. Be resilient, keep on moving and have a strong faith in God.."

Biography

My name is Imee, and I am 49 years old. I was born and raised in the Philippines and grew up in a family struggling financially. I dreamed of earning a degree to help my family, but life’s hardships prevented me from achieving that dream.

As a mother of three, I left the Philippines to work as a domestic worker in Qatar, hoping to give my children a better future. I experienced both good and difficult employers, and I suffered the heartbreaking loss of my mother and later my daughter during the pandemic.

I eventually came to the UK, where I experienced abuse and exploitation. I made the difficult decision to leave my employer and found support through The Voice of Domestic Workers (VODW).

My journey became even more challenging when I suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm after a fall at a train station. Thankfully, I survived and received tremendous support from VODW and others during my recovery.

These experiences taught me about strength, resilience, dignity and the importance of knowing my rights. Today, I am grateful to have found my voice and honoured to be part of Future Voices Revolution 2, where I hope to share my story and inspire others.

I work not because life is easy, but because the people I love are worth every sacrifice. Their dreams give me strength, and their happiness is my greatest reward.

I choose to keep learning, growing, and becoming stronger through everything life brings. I choose courage to speak up, stand for myself, and use my experiences to help others who may be going through difficult times. I believe that no matter where we come from, we all deserve a chance to hope, grow, and build a better life.
