Silent Protest at Parliament Shows Strength of Migrant Domestic Workers By Rolyn Muyco

On Monday, April 20, 2026, we gathered outside Parliament dressed as suffragettes. Our white garments carrying the weight of history, our silence carrying the force of truth. We stood together not as individuals, but as a collective voice shaped by courage, resilience, and the quiet defiance of those who refuse to remain unseen. As migrant domestic workers and proud members of The Voice of Domestic Workers, we came with a clear message, we are here, we are workers, and we deserve more than temporary protection, we deserve dignity, security, and recognition.

There was something powerful in that silence. No chants, no raised voices, just presence. Yet in that stillness, we said everything. We echoed the struggles of the women who came before us, those who fought tirelessly to be heard, to be counted, to be free. Their spirit lived in us that day. It reminded us that change is not given, it is demanded, often by those who have the least, but carry the most strength.

Standing there, I felt the weight of both history and hope. Dressed as a suffragette, I was reminded of the unbreakable power of women, how brave, how strong, how relentless we are when we come together with purpose. Our fight today may look different, but its heart is the same. The right to be treated fairly, to live and work with dignity, and to be seen not as invisible labor, but as human beings worthy of respect.

This experience also deepened my understanding of what The Voice of Domestic Workers truly means. It is more than an organization, it is a lifeline, a community, a force that transforms fear into strength. Through it, we have found not only our voices, but each other. And together, we are no longer afraid.

No one can silence us, not on the streets, not online, not in the systems that once tried to ignore us.

We are building something powerful, a community that protects, uplifts, and empowers. A movement that refuses to be erased. A future where our rights are restored, our labor is recognized, and our humanity is undeniable.

I carry immense pride in being part of this journey. Because this is more than a moment, it is a movement. And we are just getting started.
