Empowering Change: The Voice of Domestic Workers Recognized as Changemaker in The Big Issue's 2024 List, Advocating for Migrant, Refugee, and Asylum Seeker Rights

We are thrilled to share exciting news – our organization has been acknowledged as a Changemaker in The Big Issue's 2024 List, advocating for the rights of migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. This recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication and passion that all of you have contributed, transforming The Voice of Domestic Workers into a positive force for change.

Since our modest beginnings in 2009, we've been at the forefront, standing up for the rights of migrant domestic workers in the UK who have faced the challenging realities of modern slavery and human trafficking. Today, we celebrate not just an organization but a family of resilient individuals who have united to support and empower each other.

Founded by the remarkable Marissa Begonia, a former domestic worker herself, The Voice of Domestic Workers operates with a profound understanding of the struggles encountered by the overseas domestic worker community. Marissa's personal journey infuses our organization with a compassionate and empathetic spirit, propelling our mission beyond conventional advocacy.

Our commitment goes beyond the ordinary, focusing on comprehensive support that includes education, welfare, counseling services, and pastoral care. We take pride in our initiatives becoming a beacon of hope, providing a complete set of resources for migrant domestic workers.

From IT skills and English language proficiency to body and mind wellness, financial literacy, media and communication, and the arts – our classes are crafted not only to educate but also to empower. We believe in equipping individuals with the tools needed to navigate challenges, pursue opportunities, and enhance their overall well-being.

What sets us apart is not just our educational efforts but also our practical support. We reach out to workers who have bravely escaped challenging employment situations or find themselves in other acute circumstances. This hands-on approach ensures that the assistance we provide is tailored to the unique needs of each individual, fostering a sense of empowerment and resilience within our community.

As we revel in this well-deserved recognition in The Big Issue's 2024 List of Changemakers, let's recommit ourselves to our shared mission. The Voice of Domestic Workers remains dedicated to championing the rights and well-being of those who often toil behind closed doors. We are here to ensure their voices are not merely heard but respected and empowered.

To our incredible members, volunteers, and allies, this achievement is yours to celebrate. Thank you for being the heart and soul of The Voice of Domestic Workers. Let's continue this journey together, forging a future where every domestic worker is treated with dignity, respect, and the acknowledgement they deserve.

Embark on a transformative journey with us: enhance our mission by supporting our cause and contributing to our campaigns and projects. Your generous donations serve as the driving force, bringing us closer to the noble goal of empowering lives and instigating lasting change in our communities.
