May 24–26, 2025 | The View Hotel, Eastbourne, United Kingdom - Sponsored by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation
Last May 24–26, 2025, we—Gracie, Zaida and other Trustees of The Voice of Domestic Workers—had the opportunity to go on a two-day well-being retreat to Eastbourne, UK, at the stunning View Hotel. It was more than just a change of scenery; it was a deeply enriching experience that focused on healing, growth, and strengthening our organisation from within.

As members of the Board of Trustees, we carry a great responsibility to help guide The Voice of Domestic Workers forward. But like all domestic workers, we are also human beings—deserving of rest, reflection, and restoration. This special trip was exactly that: a chance to pause, breathe, and reconnect not only with ourselves but with each other.

A Journey for the Mind, Body, and Spirit
The purpose of the retreat was rooted in well-being—not just our individual health, but also the health of our organisation and the people we serve. We spent time discussing new ideas for how to support our members better, including improvements to our policies and future activities that can benefit everyone.
One of the highlights of the trip was our online course on safeguarding. We explored how to make our organisation a safer space—not only for current members but for those who are just beginning to find their voice and community through us. It was empowering and eye-opening, reminding us that true care includes education, awareness, and protection.
Gracie’s Reflection:
"I really enjoyed this trip. It was relaxing and gave me space to just be me—not as a domestic worker, but as a person. It was like taking a deep breath after holding it for too long. I was able to reflect on my own well-being, something we often forget while caring for others. This trip felt like a holiday I never imagined I’d have. Thank you to The Voice of Domestic Workers for giving us this opportunity. It means the world."
Zaida’s Reflection:
"This kind of activity is not only helpful—it’s essential. We learned how to improve our organisation while taking a much-needed break from our busy schedules. It helped us bond more as a team, and reflect on our purpose. We explored the beauty of Eastbourne, visited new places, and laughed like a family. It wasn’t just a trip—it was a moment of transformation."

More Than a Getaway—A Step Forward
From morning coffees with ocean views to evening reflections as the sun dipped below the sea, our Eastbourne trip was a blend of peace and purpose. We returned not just recharged, but with a renewed commitment to lead with compassion, clarity, and courage.
We extend our deepest gratitude to The Voice of Domestic Workers for making this happen. This trip reminded us that rest is not a reward—it’s a right. And when we care for our caregivers, we build a stronger, more compassionate movement.
Here’s to more moments of connection, healing, and growth. Together, we rise.
