Building Confidence Through Blogging Helped Me Reconnect With Who I Am By Janice F. Benitez

I joined VODW's classes wanting simply to learn more, and over a year and a half in ESOL, IT, Mediacom, Body Mind and Wellness, and Financial Literacy, I found plenty to hold onto. I started my journey with a full mix of emotions, nervous, excited, happy, and curious, and I believed from the outset that learning was still very much possible for me.
Among the skills I picked up, I highlight blogging, editing, and the simple but essential digital skill of copying and pasting, small tools that added up to a much bigger sense of capability. During my sessions, I felt reconnected with myself and built real confidence, and there is at least one particular moment that has stayed with me, though I hold that memory close and personal.
The clearest word I use to describe my transformation is confidence, building it, piece by piece, until it became something I could carry with me. Recognition and an award followed my efforts, and when graduation arrived, I felt overwhelmed, in the best possible sense, by the size of the moment.
My thanks to my teachers are warm, if brief, and my hope for the future carries a generous invitation to others, encouraging fellow domestic workers to join classes so that they too can reconnect with themselves.
That message captures something essential about what VODW offers me. It is not only a place to learn practical skills like blogging or editing, but a place where a woman who has spent years defined by her work for others can spend a few hours each week reconnecting with who she is on her own terms, building the same confidence and self assurance that fuels VODW's wider fight for domestic workers' dignity and rights.
