Joining The Voice of Domestic Workers has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Before I became part of this organization, I often felt small, unheard, and uncertain. I struggled to speak up at work, unsure of my rights or how to express my feelings. Fear controlled me, fear of losing my job, fear of losing friendships, fear of disappointing family members, even fear of speaking my truth. I said “yes” to everything, even when I wanted to say “no.” My politeness was often taken for granted, and I felt powerless.
Through The Voice of Domestic Workers, I began to learn something I had never truly experienced before, freedom of speech. I discovered that it was okay to express what was hurting me, to share my struggles, and to ask for support. I learned that my voice has value, and that speaking out does not make me rude or selfish, it makes me human.
The organization helped me grow in ways I never imagined. My grammar and communication skills improved, but more importantly, my confidence grew. I learned to assert myself, to share my story, and to stand up for my rights. I found the courage to say “no” when I needed to, and the strength to protect my own well-being.
But the transformation wasn’t just about skills, it was about family. Within this organization, I found a community that cared deeply for one another. A circle of domestic workers who understood my struggles because they had lived them too. We support each other through challenges, celebrate victories together, and share hope when life feels heavy. The bonds we have formed are like family built on respect, care, and shared experience.
Through The Voice of Domestic Workers, I went from feeling voiceless to becoming a voice for others who feel unheard. I saw that my story, once hidden behind fear and uncertainty, could inspire others and create change. I have learned that even people who feel they came from “nothing” can grow into something meaningful, powerful, and proud.
Today, I am no longer afraid to speak, to advocate, or to share my experiences. I carry the energy and courage of my fellow domestic workers with me every day. I am deeply grateful to The Voice of Domestic Workers for giving me this opportunity to learn, to grow, and to find my voice, and most importantly, for showing me that I am never truly alone.
