Hope for the Future of The Voice of Domestic Workers
As a trustee of The Voice of Domestic Workers, I am continually inspired by the remarkable strength, courage, and resilience of the women who form our community. Every day, I witness their determination to survive, thrive, and lift each other up in the face of immense challenges. Our organisation is more than just a support network, it is a beacon of hope and solidarity for Britain’s thousands of migrant domestic workers. We shelter those who face abuse, provide opportunities for education and personal growth, and demand dignity, safety, and justice for every member.
My hope for the future of our organisation is that it continues to be run by and for migrant domestic workers, guided by their lived experiences and wisdom. I dream of our educational and support programs expanding further, reaching more domestic workers in need of emergency accommodation, legal guidance, English classes, creative outlets, and most importantly, a sense of belonging. I want every domestic worker who comes to us to feel seen, heard, and valued. I hope that through sharing resources, telling our stories, exchanging food and clothing, and supporting one another to escape exploitation, we can dismantle the isolation, vulnerability, and fear that so many face.
But my hope extends beyond survival. I want The Voice of Domestic Workers to be a catalyst for systemic change. I want British society to hear our voices, not merely as workers, but as individuals whose labor sustains households, whose presence strengthens communities, and whose humanity deserves respect. I hope our advocacy can bring real, lasting change, reinforcing legal protections, holding abusive employers accountable, and ensuring that no domestic worker ever has to navigate injustice alone.
Together, I believe we can transform the future for migrant domestic workers in Britain. We can create a world where every worker can live and work with dignity, safety, and pride, confident that they are supported by a community that will never abandon them.
The Achievement I Am Most Proud Of
Since joining The Voice of Domestic Workers, my life has been transformed in ways I could never have imagined. I have faced countless challenges, but through them, I have discovered an inner courage I didn’t know I possessed. Becoming an advocate for my fellow domestic workers has given my life new purpose and meaning.
The achievement that fills me with the greatest pride is helping other domestic workers escape abusive employers and rebuild their lives. Witnessing their transformation, the restoration of confidence, hope, and dignity, is a powerful reminder that even small acts of support can spark monumental change. Every story of survival and empowerment reinforces my commitment to this work and fuels my determination to continue advocating for those who are still vulnerable.
Being part of this community has not only empowered me, but it has allowed me to empower others. Together, we create a space where voices are amplified, experiences are validated, and futures are reimagined. That sense of purpose, helping others find their voice, reclaim their dignity, and build better lives is what I treasure most.
