Finding Hope and Joy in Candle Making

Last month, I had the wonderful opportunity to join a Candle Making Workshop with The Voice of Domestic Workers. What began as a simple curiosity soon became a meaningful and joyful experience that touched me deeply—an experience that I will carry with me like the gentle glow of a candle in the dark.
Our instructor, Rona, was not only knowledgeable but also incredibly patient and encouraging. She guided us through every step with warmth, making sure that each of us felt comfortable and confident. She didn’t just teach us the technical process—how to melt, mix, pour, and shape—but she turned the workshop into a safe space of discovery and creativity. With her guidance, I learned how to create candles in different scents, each fragrance carrying its own beauty, its own story, and its own emotion.
As I watched the wax transform, I realized that candle making is more than just a craft. It is an art that teaches patience and mindfulness. Each candle I created felt like a reflection of my inner self—fragile yet strong, delicate yet powerful, simple yet capable of spreading so much warmth. For me, every flicker of light that comes from these candles symbolizes resilience, hope, and the ability to shine even when surrounded by challenges.

The workshop was not only about learning a new skill; it was also about finding joy in creativity and rediscovering a part of myself that craves new experiences. It reminded me of the importance of stepping beyond my comfort zone and embracing opportunities to grow. That day, I did not just learn how to make candles—I also learned how something as simple as a handmade candle can brighten not only a room but also a heart.
I am truly and deeply grateful to The Voice of Domestic Workers for making this possible. Through your workshops and projects, you give us more than skills—you give us confidence, hope, and the chance to express ourselves in ways we never imagined. You remind us that our voices, talents, and creativity matter.
As I look forward to the future, I am excited to join more of your programs and continue this journey of learning and self-discovery. Just as each candle I crafted carries light within it, so do these experiences—they illuminate our lives with joy, courage, and gratitude.
Indeed, a candle may be small, but its light is powerful. And just like that light, I hope to keep shining, growing, and sharing what I have learned with others.
