"Let the Universe Hear Your Voice" — Rolyn’s Journey with VODW

By Rolyn

Before I found The Voice of Domestic Workers, I was lost in silence—worried, unsure, and always carrying the heavy weight of survival. But the day I joined this community, my life shifted completely.

Being part of VODW is more than membership—it’s finding a family. A family that loves you, cares for you, and stands with you when the world feels too big. This union helped me find a better job, and with that came a peace I had long been praying for. The financial struggles didn’t vanish overnight, but the burden became lighter because I knew I wasn't alone anymore.

Through VODW, I stepped into classrooms I never imagined myself in—ESOL, IT, MediaCom, and Financial Literacy. Each lesson gave me something more than knowledge—it gave me hope. Every time I sat in class, I felt like I was unlocking a new piece of myself. The excitement, the confidence, the realization that I can still grow, even after all I’ve been through—it changed me.

But perhaps the most powerful thing VODW has given me is my voice.

As domestic workers, we are too often overlooked, silenced, or ignored. But God gave us a voice—not just to speak, but to be heard. It’s not easy to open up about the pain, the sacrifices, or the struggles we carry. But we must. Not just for ourselves, but for the others who are still afraid. Let the universe hear your voice. Tell your story. It matters.

The VODW community helped me become emotionally ready for what lies ahead. Right now, I’m facing one of the biggest fights of my life—my right to stay in the UK as a migrant worker. But I am not scared. I am prepared. This community has also taught me how to connect with others, to share space, to uplift, and to listen.

Knowing our legal rights is crucial. It protects us from harm and gives us the strength to say, “No more.” Knowledge is power. And power is protection.

Sharing my story wasn’t easy. At first, it felt like opening old wounds. But when someone listens with compassion, something beautiful happens—you begin to heal.

Now, I want to give back. I am more than willing to mentor new members, to walk with them through their first steps, and show them that there is light on the other side of struggle. If I can grow, learn, and find peace, so can they.

My dream is simple: that every domestic worker fighting for their visa will get it. That we can all live happily and legally in the UK, proud of the work we do and free to call this place home.

To my fellow domestic workers: never stop learning, never stop speaking, and never stop believing in your worth.

To those reading this: stand with us, support us, and amplify our voices—because together, we are unstoppable.
