Recognize Us, Protect Us. We Are the Foundation of Every Home

ree

If I could send one powerful message to the world, it would be this. "We are essential workers not servants." We are the invisible strength that keeps homes, families, and communities alive. Every morning, before the world awakens, millions of domestic workers rise to begin another day of unseen labour cooking meals, cleaning homes, caring for children, and comforting the elderly. We are the quiet hands that make life possible for others. Yet despite our essential role, too many of us remain unheard, undervalued, and unprotected. It is time for the world to see us truly see us and recognize that our work is not charity, but labour. Our presence is not servitude, but strength.

Visibility and Value. Recognize Our Work, Protect Our Lives

A home is not just a private space it is also a workplace and inside that space are workers whose rights deserve to be recognized and respected. For generations, domestic workers have been excluded from full labour protections. Our work is often hidden behind closed doors, where exploitation can go unnoticed. But invisibility does not mean insignificance. The truth is, homes cannot function without us. We cook the meals that nourish families. We care for the children who grow into the leaders of tomorrow. We support the elderly with compassion and dignity.

We are not “just helpers.” We are professionals whose skills, patience, and emotional strength keep households and by extension, societies running smoothly. It’s time to end the invisibility. Domestic workers deserve full labour rights, safe working conditions, and legal protection. Because a home may be personal, but when it is a workplace, it must also be safe and fair.

Legal Equality. Close the Gap, End the Exclusion

Domestic workers make the world go round yet too often, we are left outside the laws meant to protect others. While most workers have contracts, fair wages, and access to justice, domestic workers are frequently excluded. We face long hours, low pay, and sometimes abuse with no place to turn for help. We are not asking for privilege. We are asking for equality.

We call on policymakers and governments. Include domestic workers in national labour laws. Ensure fair wages, rest days, and safe workplaces. Guarantee access to justice and protection from abuse. Justice must begin at home. Every domestic worker regardless of status, nationality, or background deserves to be treated with fairness and humanity.

When the law protects domestic workers, it strengthens every family, every home, and every community.

Respect and Humanity. A Life of Service Is Not a Life of Servitude

Many people misunderstand what it means to be a domestic worker. They see the service, but not the sacrifice. They see the uniform, but not the human being wearing it.

We give our time, energy, and love not because we are lesser, but because we care deeply for the people we serve. But care should never come at the cost of dignity.

We are not servants. We are human beings mothers, fathers, daughters, and sons who deserve respect, rest, and recognition. A life of service does not mean a life of servitude. Every domestic worker deserves to live and work with freedom, equality, and peace of mind.

We care for others. It’s time the world starts caring for us.

Our Message to the World

To policymakers, your decisions shape our lives. Grant us fair immigration laws, legal protection, and the right to live and work with dignity. To employers, see us not as servants, but as professionals. Our work deserves fair pay, respect, and humane treatment. To society, Listen to our voices. Share our stories. Stand with us. Because when domestic workers are recognized, valued, and protected everyone benefits. Homes become safer, communities stronger, and societies more just. We are not invisible. We are not disposable. We are essential. We are The Voice of Domestic Workers, and we will continue to speak for justice, for equality, and for dignity.

Together, Let’s Build a Future of Fairness and Freedom

Our fight is not just for ourselves it’s for the generations of domestic workers who came before us, and those who will come after. It’s for every worker who has been silenced, and for every voice still waiting to be heard. We dream of a world where no domestic worker lives in fear. A world where every worker is treated with respect, fairness, and love.

Until then, we will keep speaking. We will keep organizing. We will keep demanding change.

Because our message is clear We are essential, not servants and our work matters.
