Choosing to Learn More Turned Into a Journey of Becoming Braver By Manilyn

My reason for joining VODW was simple, I wanted to learn more, and I arrived feeling happy about the decision from the start. Over a year and a half in ESOL, IT, Mediacom, Body Mind and Wellness, and Financial Literacy, that simple motivation grew into something much bigger than I may have expected when I first walked in.

What I found, above all, was confidence, a quality I have now in a way I did not before. It built steadily during my sessions, and one phrase in particular stayed with me throughout the journey, a gentle but firm reminder to always be confident. I loved the lessons across the board, finding them genuinely helpful for my everyday life and my plans for what comes next.

My sense of self shifted in a way I can describe with a single, powerful word, brave. That is not a small transformation. As a domestic worker navigating life and work far from home, courage is not simply a feeling, it is a tool, one that allows me to speak up, to ask questions, and to imagine a future shaped by my own choices rather than only by circumstance.

Graduation brought a mix of emotions for me, happiness and a touch of sadness, the bittersweet feeling of a meaningful chapter coming to a close.

My gratitude to my teachers is heartfelt in its simplicity, thank you for everything. And my hope for what comes next is just as sincere, to keep showing up, present every Sunday, continuing to be part of a community that helped me become the braver version of myself I am today.

My story is a reminder that sometimes the biggest transformations come from the smallest, steadiest commitments, showing up, week after week, and letting confidence grow in its own time.
