Earning My Masters Degree of Confidence at an Age I Never Expected By Rolla

I joined VODW's classes wanting to gain more knowledge, improve my communication skills, and build my confidence, arriving curious about what more than two years spent in ESOL, IT, Mediacom, and Financial Literacy might bring. At the beginning I admit I was not entirely sure what to expect, but that uncertainty gave way, more often than not, to genuine excitement and eagerness to learn as much as I could.
Through my sessions, I learned to reconnect with myself, to boost my confidence, and to build real resilience, three qualities that clearly reinforced one another throughout my time at VODW. I found the lessons deeply helpful for both my everyday life and my plans for the future, and by the end of my classes I have grown into a person I can be proud of.
My graduation experience was, in my own words, absolutely incredible. Wearing the toga and graduation cap again, and receiving my certificate, I like to joke that it felt like finally earning my masters degree, a lighthearted comparison that nonetheless captures something real, the sense of academic and personal achievement that many domestic workers are rarely given the chance to feel.
My thanks to my teachers and to VODW are warm and specific, gratitude for the chance to learn new things, develop my knowledge and confidence, and grow more resilient, along with a genuine hope that the programme continues so that many more people like me can access this supportive community.
Looking ahead, I hope more domestic workers will join, so that no one is left behind, echoing, in my own words, a spirit of all for one and one for all. That spirit of solidarity is exactly what powers VODW's ongoing campaigns for the right to change employer without restriction, the right to renew the ODW visa, the right to settlement, and the right to British citizenship, campaigns built on the belief that when one domestic worker rises, she should never have to rise alone.
