A Beautiful Yet Challenging Hiking Journey of Friendship and Survival By Rolyn Muyco

Last Sunday, May 24, 2026, the Voice of Domestic Workers went on a hiking trip to the Seven Sisters Cliffs. From the very beginning of the day, there was a strong sense of excitement in the air. We could feel it in our conversations, our smiles, and the way everyone prepared for the journey ahead. Many of us were especially excited because it was our first time seeing and climbing the famous cliffs.

We came prepared with packed lunches, snacks, and plenty of water, knowing the hike would be long and demanding. There was laughter even before the walking began, as if we were already celebrating something meaningful together. It felt like more than just a trip, it felt like a moment of freedom, connection, and shared experience.

As we started climbing, each cliff welcomed us with breathtaking views that made us stop in awe. The sun was strong, but so was our joy. Every step forward gave us new scenery, new energy, and new reasons to smile. We paused often, not just to rest our tired legs, but to take photos, admire the beauty around us, and silently thank God for the gift of nature before us.

Between the climbs, we shared food, laughter, and conversations that made the journey lighter. Those moments of rest became just as meaningful as the hike itself. They reminded us that we were not alone on this path, we were walking it together. Through every shared bottle of water, every encouraging word, and every helping hand, our solidarity and friendship grew stronger.

But the most unforgettable moment of the day came on our way back. Three of my colleagues and I got lost. At first, we thought it would be easy to find the right path again. But the trails were confusing, with multiple directions and no clear signs. One wrong turn led to another, and suddenly we found ourselves walking up and down unfamiliar paths, retracing steps, and searching for a way out.

Our bodies were already exhausted. Our feet were burning, our legs were aching, and our throats were dry from thirst. The weight of fatigue and uncertainty started to settle in. But even in that difficult moment, something powerful remained, trust in each other.

We did not panic. We did not blame one another. We stayed together, step by step, choosing to move forward instead of giving up. Every decision was made as a group, every struggle shared equally. In that moment, we were not just colleagues, we were a team fighting through exhaustion, confusion, and discomfort together. And somehow, despite everything, we found our way back.

That feeling of finally getting out of the maze of paths is something I will never forget. It was not just relief, it was victory. A quiet but powerful reminder that even when we feel lost in life, we are capable of finding our way back when we hold on to unity and determination.

We ended the trip completely exhausted, with sore bodies and tired feet. But our hearts were full. Full of gratitude, full of memories, and full of appreciation for the Voice of Domestic Workers and the fundraising group who made this experience possible.

This journey was more than a hike. It was a reminder of resilience, of sisterhood, and of the strength we carry when we face challenges together. It allowed us to witness the beauty of creation, but also the beauty of human connection under pressure. And most importantly, it reminded us that even in moments of hardship, we are never truly alone.
