Growing Slowly but Surely Taught Me I Could Finally Do It on My Own By Lor

I joined VODW's classes wanting to learn and enhance my own capability, arriving with a familiar mix of nerves, excitement, and happiness over a year and a half spent in ESOL, IT, Mediacom, Body Mind and Wellness, and Financial Literacy. I believed learning was still possible for me, and that belief carried me through classes that taught me so many things I can hardly list them all, each one helping me in its own way.

During my sessions, I felt reconnected with myself, built confidence, and grew more resilient, a gradual but meaningful transformation. I am honest about my own pace, I tend to be a little slower than others in picking things up, yet that honesty makes my progress all the more meaningful to me. By the end of my classes, I feel a real and lasting change, confidence in myself that I did not have before.

Graduation, for me, brought a wave of pride I had not expected at this stage of my life, wearing the gown and receiving my certificate felt entirely unexpected and deeply moving.

My gratitude toward my teachers is warm and detailed, thanks for the opportunity to learn more, to build my confidence, and to watch myself grow, even at my own slower pace, until I reached a point where I could finally do things on my own.

My hope for the future is simple, that more activities be added to the programme so that others like me can keep growing too. My story speaks to something VODW deeply values, that growth does not have to be fast to be real, and that every domestic worker, no matter her starting point or her pace, deserves the patience and support to eventually stand fully on her own, confident enough to claim the rights and respect she is owed.
