Learning About My Rights Became the Lesson That Opened Every Door After By Aimie Enriquez

I joined VODW's classes with a simple, honest motivation, I wanted to learn. Over more than two years in ESOL and IT, that desire led me somewhere important, a deeper understanding of my visa and my rights as a domestic worker, knowledge I describe as genuinely and thoroughly helpful in my everyday life.
I arrived happy and believing that learning was possible for me, and during my sessions I felt my confidence build steadily. By the end of my classes, I have more potential than I once knew, along with skills that I believe will lead me toward a brighter future. My graduation left me, in my own simple words, so happy, and my recognition with an award only reinforced how far I had come.
My gratitude toward my teachers is brief but genuine, a plain and sincere want to keep learning. My hope for the future centres on that same theme, continuing to learn and grow in confidence, a steady, ongoing commitment rather than a single finished achievement.
What stands out most in my own story is how naturally my understanding of visa rules and my rights as a domestic worker became one of my most valued lessons. That knowledge sits directly at the intersection of education and advocacy that defines so much of VODW's work, understanding the rules is often the first step toward changing them.
My journey reflects exactly why VODW continues to campaign for the right to change employer without restriction, the right to renew the ODW visa, the right to settlement, and the right to British citizenship, because for me, knowing my rights and having the confidence to claim them are two halves of the very same lesson.
