I am not just carrying my luggage, I am carrying the dreams, hopes, and future of my family. Every meal I cooked, every room I cleaned, every smile I shared was for the loved ones waiting for me back home. Every sacrifice, every sleepless night, every lonely moment away from home is a labor of love.
Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are not just workers; we are silent heroes. We are daughters, sisters, mothers, and friends who fight battles alone with dignity and sincerity. We face hardships that many cannot see, yet we continue with courage, determination, and hope. We are not a threat to the communities we serve; in fact, in many ways, we are the very backbone of society.
We do not work with just our hands, we work with our hearts and souls. To all my fellow domestic workers abroad: hold your heads high. Be proud of your journey, your strength, and your sacrifices. Let the universe hear your voice. Let the world feel your pain, your resilience, and your unwavering spirit. You are not invisible. You are warriors. You are fighters. You are never alone.
My Story
I want to share my life as a domestic worker. As a single mother, I was willing to do anything to support my family’s needs. Life was full of struggles, and I made the difficult decision to work abroad as a domestic helper in the Middle East. The work was not easy, it was physically demanding, emotionally challenging, and at times, lonely. But I persevered, knowing that my sacrifices would help create a better life for my children.
Eventually, I arrived in the United Kingdom, where I found the Voice of Domestic Workers. This organization became a turning point in my life. Through them, I discovered a new family, access to education, friendships, and opportunities I never thought possible. The Voice of Domestic Workers has given me the platform to speak, to be heard, and to advocate for the rights of domestic workers like me. It gave me hope that change is possible not just for myself, but for millions of migrant domestic workers around the world.
Why the Voice of Domestic Workers Matters
We, domestic workers, face challenges that are often invisible. We endure long hours, limited freedom, and emotional struggles. Many of us live with fear, uncertainty, and the heavy burden of supporting families from afar. Yet our labor, though often unseen, is invaluable. We feed families, care for children and elders, and contribute to communities in ways that are essential yet unrecognized.
Through the Voice of Domestic Workers, we reclaim our dignity. We amplify our voices. We stand together to demand respect, fairness, and justice. We show the world that domestic work is not just a job, it is an act of courage, resilience, and love.
A Message to My Fellow Domestic Workers
To all my fellow domestic workers: be proud of who you are and what you do. Raise your heads high, because every sacrifice you make, every challenge you endure, and every triumph you achieve matters. You are heroes, and your courage inspires hope and change. Never feel alone. Together, with organizations like the Voice of Domestic Workers, we can transform lives, create communities of support, and ensure that the world finally sees and values our contributions.
To anyone reading this: never underestimate the courage, strength, and resilience of domestic workers. Our labor may be unseen, but our hearts are always full of hope, love, and unwavering determination.
Thank you for listening to my story and for standing with us in support of domestic workers everywhere.
