Discovering That Every Class Left Something Behind I Could Never Lose By Rochie Dureza

I joined VODW's classes wanting to acquire knowledge I could use in my everyday life, a practical and grounded goal that guided me through six months to a year in ESOL, IT, Mediacom, and Financial Literacy. I arrived curious, believing firmly that learning never truly ends, that every day offers the chance to discover something new that can make life better or easier.

My lessons proved genuinely useful across the board. In IT, I learned to manage documents, folders, tools, apps, and even blogging, skills that quietly simplify daily tasks that once may have felt overwhelming. In Financial Literacy, I learned to manage my finances and build a habit of saving, even in small amounts, understanding that consistency matters more than size. Mediacom introduced me to the creative satisfaction of designing on Canva, while ESOL deepened my understanding of immigration, politics, and history in the UK, alongside my communication skills.

During my sessions, I felt reconnected with myself, watched my stress ease, built confidence, grew more resilient, felt healed, and experienced a genuine sense of belonging. Reflecting on what stayed with me, I notice that every class carried its own role and its own impact on the way I think, an impact I believe will stay with me wherever life takes me next. Nothing I have learned, I say with quiet certainty, can ever be taken away from me.

That growth led me to realise something I had not expected, that I am capable of improving my knowledge even while working, a discovery that reshaped how I see my own potential. My graduation was absolutely amazing, and it left me even more excited for the classes still to come.

My gratitude toward everyone who made the programme possible is heartfelt, and my hope for the future is generous, that more domestic workers will join VODW's classes so they too can learn and see themselves differently, just as I have

My own insight, that knowledge once gained can never be taken away, speaks to something VODW believes deeply, that education is one of the surest, most permanent forms of empowerment a domestic worker can carry with her, no matter what challenges around her rights, her visa, or her future still lie ahead.
