The day started bright and full of promise. The sun was shining gently over us, as if it was blessing the journey ahead. Everyone was smiling, excited, and full of energy, ready to embrace nature, walk through the trails, and sweat out the stress of a long and busy week.
There was laughter everywhere. Conversations overlapped as we walked, each step filled with stories, jokes, and shared excitement. It felt light, almost effortless at first. We weren’t just walking, we were experiencing something together.
Along the way, we paused to take it all in. We sat on the soft grass, carefully touching the wildflowers scattered across the meadows. Simple moments like that felt strangely peaceful, like time slowed down just for us. We shared food with one another, passing small bites and snacks with no hesitation. In that moment, there was no difference between anyone. It felt like unity, pure, simple, and real.
It was one of those days that felt unforgettable in the best possible way. A day filled with joy, connection, and the kind of freedom that only comes when you are surrounded by nature and people who share the same experience with you.
We knew from the beginning that reaching Seven Sisters Cliff would take hours of walking. At first, I thought it would be easy, just a long but manageable trail. But as time passed, the path became more challenging. Step by step, we began to feel the weight of the journey. The excitement was still there, but so was the growing exhaustion.
There was no real turning back. And slowing down meant risking being left behind. So we kept going, even when our legs started to feel heavy and our breath became shorter.
By the time we reached the final hill, everyone’s feet were sore, and our bodies were aching. It felt like we had given everything just to get there. But then, something changed.
When we finally reached the top, the view opened up like a reward for every painful step we had taken. Below us were the cliffs and beaches stretching endlessly, meeting the sea in the most breathtaking way. The wind was cold against our tired skin, but it felt refreshing, like the world was finally allowing us to breathe again. We stood there quietly for a moment, taking everything in. No rushing, no talking, just presence.
It was beautiful in a way that made all the struggle feel worth it. But reality slowly returned. After the beauty came concern. How were we going to get back? We started to worry as we tried to find a ride. Phones were almost dead, leaving us with little connection to the outside world. Everyone was thirsty, and we had already finished all our water. Even basic things like finding a restroom became impossible. For a moment, it truly felt like we were stranded somewhere far from comfort, far from certainty.
But in that uncertainty, something inside me shifted.
I remembered who we are. We are domestic workers. We are people who have faced long days, difficult environments, and endless responsibilities. We are used to pushing through when things get hard, even when we feel tired, even when there seems to be no clear way forward.
And somehow, that thought gave strength back to all of us. This trip became more than just a hike. It became a reminder of something deeper in life. No matter how steep the path, how far the journey, or how exhausted we become along the way, we keep moving forward. We find small moments of joy even in difficulty. We trust that the effort will be worth it in the end. We may feel tired, we may struggle, and we may even feel lost at times. But we do not give up. We keep going.
