From Snapshots to Skills VODW Members Shine in Photography Training

The Voice of Domestic Workers (VODW) is committed to empowering migrant domestic workers through education, training, and skills development. Recently, VODW members had the opportunity to participate in a POLO-OWWA training program that featured a special photography course—an experience that was both exciting and enriching for everyone involved.

Learning Beyond the Lens

For many of the participants, this was their first formal introduction to photography. The course went beyond simply taking pictures; it opened the door to understanding the art and science behind capturing meaningful images. From learning about the right angle, proper sizing, and framing, to understanding why composition matters, students gained essential knowledge they could use not only for personal enjoyment but also in practical applications.

One of the participants expressed their heartfelt gratitude, saying:

“Thank you, The Voice of Domestic Workers, and thanks to the OWWA training in photography. I had so much fun, and it was truly a challenge. I learned how to properly take pictures, how to find the right angle, and how to frame the size correctly instead of just clicking randomly. This is something I can now use in my mediacom working group since I am assigned to capture moments in each class. Thank you also to our photography teacher—we learned so much from you!”

Skills That Build Confidence

The training was not just about technical skills; it was also about building confidence. Many domestic workers are tasked with documenting events, activities, and workshops within their communities. With these new photography skills, they now feel more prepared to take on those responsibilities with pride and creativity.
