Keeping Going No Matter What Became the Lesson That Meant the Most to Me By Maricar

I joined VODW's classes wanting to gain more knowledge, and across six months to a year of IT and other classes, I found exactly that, delivered with a philosophy that has clearly stayed with me, learning is a continuous process. I approached my time at VODW with curiosity, confident from the outset that growth was always possible, no matter the stage of life a person finds herself in.

My learning journey touched every corner of the curriculum. Little by little, my English improved through ESOL. IT lessons made me more comfortable navigating social media. Financial Literacy taught me how to manage my money with more intention. Mediacom sharpened my creativity and my way of thinking. And Body and Mind classes lifted both my physical and mental wellbeing. Taken together, it is a remarkably full picture of growth, touching nearly every part of my daily life.

The words that stayed with me most are direct and motivating, don't stay where you are, keep going. It is advice I have clearly taken fully to heart, and when asked how the sessions made me feel, all I can say is all of the above, a shorthand for a whole spectrum of positive change happening at once. I am honest about one particular challenge, keeping up can feel difficult when I fall behind, especially with technology and English, which makes me all the more determined to keep learning rather than fall further behind. Graduation, in my own words, was great, a fitting, understated close to a journey built on steady, continuous effort rather than dramatic leaps.

My thanks to my teachers are warm, and my hope for the future is refreshingly simple, keep learning.

My story is a reminder that for many domestic workers, the goal is not a single dramatic transformation but a steady, determined refusal to be left behind, in language, in technology, in confidence, and in the fight for the rights VODW continues to campaign for on behalf of every worker choosing, like me, to keep going rather than stay where I am.
